NAPA proudly (re)presents Dutch producers and their new films and projects. Many of our producers have extensive experience with international co-productions and are always interested in broadening their horizons. We cordially invite you to meet and contact our associated producers. Here you will find an introduction to our associated producers and their projects both in development and in the process of financing.

From the Netherlands at Cannes 2024

We would like to highlight the projects by our producers that are screening the Cannes Film Festival 2024, in various sections of the programme.

East of Noon by Hala Elkoussy - Quinzaine des Cinéastes

On the ruins of an industrial complex outside of time; SHAWKY (70) rules with a mix of performance and fear. His cohort JALALA (75) provides relief to the inhabitants of the enclave with stories of the Sea, which no-one else has seen. But Jalala’s grandson musician ABDO (19) is a rebel. He wants to explore what is out there for “real”. To this end he uses his musical abilities to devise an escape plan like no other. The winds of change may be blowing over the enclave but is all change really for the best?

Chatila and Reda are saving to pay for fake passports to get out of Athens. But when Reda loses their hard-earned cash to his dangerous drug addiction, Chatila hatches an extreme plan, which involves them posing as smugglers and taking hostages in an effort to get him and his best friend out of their hopeless environment before it is too late.

All We Imagine as Light by Payal Kapadia - Palme d'Or Competition

Dutch Minority Production: BALDR Film.

In Mumbai, Nurse Prabha's routine is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.

Just before the school holidays something happens between six-year-old Armand and Jon. The incident triggers a series of events, forcing the parents into a captivating battle of redemption - where madness, desire and obsession arise.

Dutch Minority Production: Circe Films.

After being released from a juvenile detention center, Wellington finds himself alone and adrift on the streets of São Paulo, without any contact from his parents and lacking the resources to rebuild his life. During a visit to a porn theater, he encounters Ronaldo, a mature man, who teaches him new ways of surviving.

­Everybody Loves Touda by Nabil Ayouch - Cannes premiere

Dutch Minority Production: Viking Film. Sales: MK2 Films.

Touda only dreams of one thing: being a Sheikha, a traditional Moroccan performer. She belts out songs about resistance, love and emancipation, passed down from generation to generation. Every evening, she performs in bars under the gaze of men in her tiny village while hoping for a better future for her and her son. Disrespected and shamed, she sets her sights on leaving for the bright lights of Casablanca...
