From the Netherlands at Cannes 2026

The Station is set to world premiere in Cannes Critics' Week. The Dutch minority co-production Coward is part of the main Official Competition, and Nostalgia for the Future is selected for Cannes Classics.

THE STATION by Sara Ishaq
/ Cannes Critics' Week

Dutch Minority Production: Keplerfilm
In war-torn Yemen, a women's fuel station becomes a sanctuary for Layal, who struggles to protect her young brother amid societal pressures. When her estranged sister returns with an offer, family bonds are tested.

COWARD by Lukas Dhont / The Official Competition
Dutch Minority Production: Topkapi Films
As the First World War drags on, Pierre, a soldier newly arrived at the front, is eager to prove himself. Behind the lines, he meets Francis, who decides to lift the spirits of his comrades by putting together a theatre show. While the violence continues, both men try to find ways to escape the brutality of war, even if only for a moment.

NOSTALGIA FOR THE FUTURE by Brecht Debackre
/ Cannes Classics

Dutch Minority Production: seriousFilm
Guided by the narration of Charlotte Rampling, Nostalgia for the Future is a descent into the labyrinthine world of Chris Marker, the “best-known author of unknown films,” who spent a lifetime concealing himself behind a veil of pseudonyms and images of cats. Moving through a constellation of personal documents and film fragments, an archivist attempts to decode the man through the material traces he left behind.
